Mathematics for NIMCET has a vast syllabus. Are you lagging behind in your Maths preparation for the NIMCET and other entrance exams? Welcome to the INPS Plan. Follow these simple rules and you can cover the entire syllabus, for NIMCET in 6 months. Earlier, if you are dedicated enough!
Note: This is a tough plan to follow but it works, I know. I have tested it on my students and got results. All I ask of you is, to put in the effort.
Before We Begin
There are certain commitments, which I demand from you, first.
•
• Devote at least 4 hours to Maths, daily. You may get sick or be travelling. That’s ok, but do not spend more than 2 days, without solving Mathematics.
• Do not purchase or collect, every Math book In Market out there. Get some standard books and a good question bank. Get rid of any extra material, that you do not use.
I recommend some below:
Just pick any one of these question banks.
For Starting you start with R.D Sharma ( 11th & 12th CBSE Board Book)[Those who have very weak Fundamentals in Mathematics]
And Then Purchase R.D. Sharma ( Objective book for JEE Mains)
OR Errorless Mathematics
For topic wise preparation, you can follow Cengage series, which have recently gained popularity.
Calculus
Trigonometry
Algebra
Coordinate Geometry
Vectors
Probability
Do not Purchase more books more books more confusion
You should have only those books which you are able to complete within one year,If you solve only one book completely with understating of concepts it is more than enough
• Do not hunt down proofs, for every little theorem you see. NIMCET does not ask you for proofs. Get a result, learn to apply it, and use it, in the best way you can. It does not mean that I am telling you to memories. Ask questions. Just do not waste time, on topics that are irrelevant.
• Finish a topic. Solve the problems from the question bank. Mark the difficult ones, when you revise, only solve these problems. Check out past year problems from that topic. Move on to the next one! Be relentless, and work hard.
Ok, I get the rules. What now?
I give to you the INPS Plan for Mathematics. Our success mantra is simple.
Start Easy, Build Up Confidence, Boost Speed, and Cross the Finish line
I have prepared a monthly breakdown of the topics that you need to cover in the given time period. Cover your topics in the order, that I have listed.
Detailed Plan
Take a break before you read this. Once you have full focus, come back.
Month 1
Topics in this month are easy. Focus on beginning well, set your pace properly. I keep them here for one more reason. NIMCET often combines these topics to other sections to form quality questions.
• Logarithms: Easy topic, Often combined with Calculus.
• Modlus Functions ,Inequalities, Irrational functions,Equation Solving –Used in every section of Mathematics (Most Important Part of Mathematics)
• Trigonometry: NIMCET often asks questions from this topic & trigonometric functions appear everywhere. Do this topic till solution of triangles. Leave out Inverse Trigonometric Functions for now.
• Quadratic Equations: With trigonometry down, you are ready to take on Quadratic Equations. This is where NIMCET frames very interesting questions. Complete this topic properly. Its concepts will be used many times later in the preparation.
• Sequences and Series: ( Very Important for NIMCET)A short topic, which you can cover in less than 3 days. Give special attention to the A.M G.M. inequality. It is one of the main concepts on which NIMCET frames questions.
• Binomial Theorem: Okay, time to relax a bit. If you have done very hard work, you can refresh your brain with this topic. Just do not enjoy it too much. Finish it fast, and get ready for the next.No need to go in depth of Binomial Theorem only 1 or maximum two questions are asked which are very basic. Even this topic is not mentioned in NIMCET Syllabus. But every they asked 1 or 2 questions.
Before moving on, revise. Solve the questions, you marked as difficult. Alright, time to shift gears into…
Month 2
Hard work begins now. Accelerate!. We will dive into the world of Calculus. The topics for this month are:
• Functions: Have a lot of practice on finding domain, range, and understand the definitions of each function. You will get the first real taste of graphs here. They are really important if you want to solve problems fast. Inverse of a function is another important topic.
• Inverse Trigonometric Functions: – Remember, we left ITF in month 1. Now is the time to complete them.
• Limit, Continuity and Differentiability: – Important chapters which blend well with functions. Graphs will help you here if you have done them well.
• Methods of Differentiation: – This is a very interesting topic, and may get you hooked. You will learn many new techniques, and may need to mug some up. Stick to the schedule and do not overdo problems. You can always differentiate more later.
Do not try every problem out there. Get good practice, and move on.
Month 3
The month of Integration
• Indefinite Integration: – This is the part where you mug up, the most. Some questions are solved in a certain way. And you should know those methods by heart.
• Definite Integration: – Students definitely favor this one, over his brother, indefinite. So does NIMCET.
• Area Under Curve: – An important chapter for NIMCET. They ask 12 questions here, every year. Attempt AUC questions in last time if time is left because AUC questions are very calculative.
• Application of Derivatives: Pay attention to maximaminima, Mean Value Theorem, and Errors. Anything practical is highly important for NIMCET.
Month 4
It is now the time to coordinate. Release the throttle a bit, for the hard part is done.
If you get this far with this plan, you are doing really good. Keep going, the work is not done yet.
• Straight Lines: – Pay special attention to Locus, and Family of Straight lines
• Circle: – Circles introduce a lot of concepts in coordinate geometry. They are also important for complex numbers. Do this topic well.
• Vectors: – Yes, conic sections can wait. Finish off vectors first. You will find that you are already familiar with most of this chapter.
• 3 D geometry: – Hardly 1 or no question or no ask from this topic, and they are on the easier side generally. A good grasp of straight lines will definitely aid you here.
• Permutations and Combinations: A rather abstract topic. Some find it very intuitive, and easy. For others, it creates more problems. I belong to the second category. You can save this topic for later or leave it out completely if you find yourself struggling too much.
Month 5
Consolidate!
Topics that follow, will lift a few things from what we have covered in the syllabus, so far. This will improve your understanding of the previous chapters and give you new insights.
• Matrices and Determinants: – A fairly easy topic. You can cover most of it without much outside help. Important topic for NIMCET and other MCA Entrance exams. At least, 1 to 2 question is asked from this section.
• Complex Numbers: – Some people cover this topic very early. I advise it late, because, by this time, the student develops the maturity level required to tackle this section. You find many topics here, locus, functions, trigonometry, circle etc.Although this topic was not asked before 2019 but this year (2019) they asked 2 questions from this topic which are very basic,So no need to go in depth of Complex Number.Even this topic is not mentioned in NIMCET Syllabus.
• Differential Equations: – This topic is also not mentioned in NIMCET Syllabus. But you learn Basics of this chapter to be ready for elementary questions from this topic.
Probability: – Probably you are good at this. At least, 4 to 5 question is asked from this section. Most Important chapter in your syllabus.
Month 6
Wrap up and get ready for the showdown!
• Conic Sections: Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola. Same concepts are repeated, with slight changes. Recently, NIMCET has asked easy questions from this part.
Note:
1. Any extra time you have should go into revision and problem solving.
2. You must know that NIMCET is Speed based exam in 120 mins. You have to attempt 120 questions,So you have to memorize atleast 2500 to 3000 questions of Mathematics as a standard result, Specially questions which are asked in JEE mains in Previous years before 2018.
3. Memorize those questions which seems to be generalize.
4. If you struggle with time management, try this handy little technique.
